From time to time, I find a show that I really like. I am kind of a sci-fi, fantasy adventure nut. I suppose that I prefer non "reality" shows because they provide a mental escape from day to day concerns.
One thing that I have noticed about almost every movie and TV show is that the producer almost always weaves his world view into the storyline. Some shows are designed to propagate a world view, producers in the entertainment industry are not afraid to use their influence to make a point.
I saw an episode of Law and Order where a young boy was found eating garbage in front of an apartment complex. The investigators were surprised to discover that the boy lives in a well kept home just a few houses away. They eventually discover that a "home schooling" single mom had been withholding food from her son as a disciplinary technique. The investigators were appalled to learn that the mother had no legal accountability to the public school system. When confronted with the question of accountability, one school official opined that many home schooled children have no way to escape the potential physical and mental abuse of their parents, because when a child is in public school the signs of abuse are more easily discovered.
After watching that episode, I was tempted to feel suspicious of every parent who is not willing "place themselves under the benevolent authority of the American government", buy allowing their parenting skill to be scrutinized by the watchful eye of mandatory reporters.
According to God's word, the responsibility to raise children rest solely on the parents in individual homes. When a parents commit a crime against the child, it then becomes the responsibility of church to restore the parents to righteousness and protect and provide for the child in the mean time.
Liberal and social ideals are growing stronger every year, and I believe that Satan's system is so subtle that even our Judeo Christian culture is sliding down a slippery slope, that will end up in socialism, where the individual freedoms in our culture, and the responcibility of the Church will be replaced with an overbearing government system due to a manufactured "greater good" for the people.
