My wife and I were discussing the outcome of this 2008 presidential election. She asked me if Obama's victory was a sign that we are in the last days. I reminded her that we have been in the biblical "last days" ever since the completion of Jesus' death and Resurrection, which was the fulfillment of the old testament law and prophesies. Many conservative Americans are afraid of what the next 4 years hold but I prefer not to give in to fear and worry which is sin. I am not talking about the kind of fear we experience when our heart races as we linger on the brink of some unknown adventure. I am talking about the kind of fear that the chief priests experienced when the Roman guard reported their perspective of the events surrounding Jesus' Resurrection from the grave. When the chief priests herd about the earth quake, the stone rolling away, the angel sitting on the stone, and finally the fainting of every Roman soldier in attendance, they refused to believe that Jesus was who he said he was. There were afraid of losing their power and position of authority, Jesus was a political threat and because they were afraid, they continued to try to circumvent God's plan. They bribed the guards and told them to spread a lie. His disciples took His body while we were sleeping! they were to say.
Don't forget that every ruler has authority only as allowed by God. Feel free to stand up for Jesus and what he taught, but don't forget that God has allowed Obama to lead our country for a time, don't be afraid, don't worry, God is still in control and we must give Him glory for what he is doing and will do, according to the pleasure of His perfect will.
Until next time
